Dresscode :

Are Your Wondering What Dwyer Kids Wear?

Here Are Some Tips!

Dress Code Standards:

Dwyer Middle School, Huntington Beach Board of Trustees, School Site Council, and PTSA believe that appropriate dress contributes to a productive learning environment. The following discusses acceptable and unacceptable attire at Dwyer:

Shoes must be worn at all times. Rubber thongs, beach sandals, flip-flops and any other shoes without heel straps are not permitted. Steel-toe shoes are not permitted. Shoes with excessively high heels are not permitted.

Broad rimmed hats, visors or baseball caps worn forward are allowed only in the amphitheater and on the grass during lunch, before, and after school. This is to protect students from the sun.

Sunglasses worn indoors are not permitted.

Bare midriffs, half-shirts, spaghetti strap tops, "underwear" type tops are not permitted. Shirts must completely cover the stomach. Half-shirts and spaghetti straps are not allowed for yearbook photos.

Pants or jeans must be ankle length. Pants, jeans or shorts must be neatly hemmed (not frayed) and in good repair. The waist and hips of the pants, jeans and shorts must be no more than 1" larger than the student’s size. Pants must be worn at the waist and not turned over at the waist.

All dresses, shorts and skirts must be appropriate for school as to style and length. Underwear, loungewear or sleepwear style garments are not allowed.

Hair must be of naturally occurring colors, neat, clean and well groomed.

Gang related clothing is not permitted, including initial belts, chains, wallets with chains and belts which are inappropriately long and hanging from the waist or have compartments on the buckle. Any combination of cloth which law enforcement agencies currently consider gang related (these may change frequently) are not permitted.

Clothing, backpacks and binders with beer, alcohol, tobacco, drug, or obscene statements or drawings are not to be worn or carried. This includes shirts with obscene pictures or objectionable language. Staff has the discretion to decide what constitutes objectionable.

Violations of the Dress Code:

Students out of compliance with the Dress Code Standards will receive a Dress Code Referral. First Referral: Parents will be notified and student will change wardrobe to appropriate attire. Second Referral: Student will receive a Lunch ALC and student will change wardrobe to appropriate attire. Third Referral: Student will receive an All Day ALC. Fourth Referral: Student will be suspended for one day.

Please note: As it is not possible to include every style, trend or haircut in the Dress Code, those items that are not specifically mentioned will be dealt with on an individual basis.

As fashion trends change the Dress Code may be modified. When this occurs, parents will be notified via letter to home or PTSA newsletter.

2006 reminder to all students regarding a question that has come up regarding our dress codes: Students may not wear bandanas of ANY color on their heads, tied to their waists, or extending from the pockets. Beanies are not allowed at any time during the school day. You are welcome to wear a broad-rimmed hat, visor, or baseball cap (worn forward) to protect you from the harmful rays of the sun. Please refer to page 11 of your student planner if you have any questions.
