Technology to Support Learning:

Dwyer is committed to providing opportunities for students to use technology to gain master of the California State Standards. We are proud of our recently crafted, "Dwyer's Vision for Technology:

"Dwyer Middle School is committed to closing the gaps in access to technologies, to enhance and enable teaching, learning, and leadership, that will help all students achieve mastery of the State Academic Content Standards."

Reading Counts is Motivating Students:

Students are already benefiting from Dwyer's new computed based reading incentive program, Reading Counts. Students who have participated in this program are reading books at their individual reading levels and they are reading more often. The program requires each student to take an initial computer based reading test that identifies the students' individual strengths and weaknesses in reading as well as his or her interests. Based on the results of this assessment, the computer program assigns the student a reading level and generates a list of book titles that are at the student's reading level and that match the student's interests. Students read books and take computer quizzes, accruing points as they go. One staff member shared, "I was amazed by the breadth of books available in the Reading Counts program." Students at every level, whether they are learning English as a second language or they are in the GATE program, are challenged by the books they are reading for Reading counts. Students are able to access the Reading counts program at any of the 120 Pentium PC computers on campus - in the classroom, in the tow computer labs, or in the Library Media Center.

Technology Enhances Achievement:

Students use the computers across campus for Internet research, textbook CD-ROM use, software programs, creation of PowerPoint presentations, completion of computer-based graphic organizers and much more.
