President's Message:
“Let’s count the ways we make a difference…”
I would personally like to welcome all Dwyer students, staff, and parents to another year already well on its way! A very special thank you to those who became members of our Dwyer PTSA this year also. We really appreciate your continued support and hope that you can join us at one or more of our PTSA meetings. We held our first PTSA meeting in the Dwyer library on September 18th at 9am and I was so excited to see many new and returning faces.
This is my first year as Dwyer PTSA President, and my fifth year as a Dwyer parent. I feel so fortunate to be surrounded by such a great group of parents and wonderful school staff. I encourage anyone to try to do what we can for our teachers and administration to help make Dwyer a better place for ALL students.
Your Dwyer PTSA has been working hard already to ensure our school year started smoothly. Thanks to our PTSA Hospitality Chair, Debby Miller, and her committee who put together a “Greek” themed Welcome Back Luncheon for our teachers and staff. Everything looked so delicious and the decorations were amazing! Many, many thanks to those who worked hard at putting together First Day Packets, helping out at Welcome EveryBody (WEB) orientation, as well as, Registration! It is a tremendous help to the school to get PE clothes ordered, books and schedules distributed and student pictures taken before the school year starts. We just couldn’t do it without awesome parents like you!
October is already buzzing with events coming! We have already started our annual magazine Fall Fundraiser. A ton of thanks to those who placed their magazine orders! This fundraiser brings in money that goes directly towards PTSA’s Teacher Wishlist items, Teacher Reimbursements, RIF, Author’s Day, and funds numerous other school programs throughout the year. Many thanks to MaryLou Shlaudeman who donates plenty of countless hours coordinating/planning this event!
Another PTSA program coming up at Dwyer is Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) on October 3rd – 5th. Thanks to those parent volunteers signed up to help with that! Coming next is Dwyer’s seventh annual Family Night Dinner on October 18th from 5pm-7pm. This year’s theme is “Catch the Fun”! It should be a blast and if you are available to help out, call our Chairperson, Kelly VanderLans right away. Be sure not to miss out on this sports themed night! Tickets are $6 each.
Those of you who have access to the internet should explore the Dwyer website at www.dwyermiddleschool.com. Our PTSA Website Chairperson, Shereen Walter has been working hard to update it recently. There you will find important school information, including most upcoming events and school activities, meeting reminders, as well as, contacts within the school and PTSA. Plus, how can I forget this wonderful Dwyer Newsletter?! Thanks to Gloria Hu, our editor who makes it possible. We try our best to make it easy to stay informed!
A parent recently asked me, “What can I do to help make a difference?” Talk to your children. Join the PTSA. Volunteer with one of our several committees. Support our fundraisers. Offer a unique talent or experience. Keep informed and Stay involved! I invite you to attend our PTSA meetings, held on the 3rd Tuesday of every month at 9am in the library.
I look forward to making this another successful year at Dwyer. I THANK you and so do OUR kids!
